Central Somalia Mine Action Consortium CESMAC

INTRODUCTION

Central Somalia Mine Action Consortium is non-profit making, organization (CESMAC) comprise of Five Active Local NGO’s namely: Ramadan Demining and Development Organization  (RDDO) based in Adado district in Galgaduud, Towfiiq Umbrella of Organizations (TUOS) based in Dhusamareb district in Galgaduud, Mudug Educational Youth Organization (MEYO) based in Galkacyo in Mudug  region , Relief and Development Committee (RDC) based in Balanbal district in Galgaduud, Daryeel Demining and Protection Society (DDPS) based in Abudwak district in Galgaduud.   Established with the aim of rendering humanitarian demining services, awareness to the Somali people from the danger of Landmines Explosive Remnants of War and dissuade them not to perform Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) to Somali girls as well as ignorance.

Landmines were first laid extensively during the wars between Ethiopia and Somalia in 1964 and 1977-78. Both armies heavily mined frontlines along the border. Mines were used to defend military positions, protect infrastructure and restrict enemy mobility as were large amounts of ERW’s left.

Fulfilling its objectives of awareness and humanitarian demining in Galgaduud and Mudug regions of central Somalia by establishing emergency work with the support of Somali Explosive Management (SEMA), UNMAS HEM, UKROBROSEVICE (UOS) and other donors to carry out Mine awareness activities, for children, families, schools and madrass as in the villages and towns of Mudug and Galgaduud regions and rural areas, clearing Land Mines, collecting ERW’s and working with regional and district administrations. Moreover, to capacity build and dissuade youth against joining from piracy and tribal conflicts as well as Insurgent groups.

In the structure, a board of directors who make the concrete decisions and policies affecting the current and future undertakings of the consortium governs CESMAC. Depending on the nature of the sub projects implemented by the NGO’s Personnel are recruited on the basis offered and in accordance with NGO policies and procedures set up for personnel management. Project staff carries out programmers and plans of the organization.
